Teaser Posters for TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Revealed

The first set of teaser posters for the upcoming Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were released today.

The posters feature turtle hands and turtle weapons. A drastically different technique than what filmgoers are normally used to i.e. posters that show main characters posing for the camera to look badass and/or sexy.

The brave stalwarts of comics and film journalism at UnleashTheFanboy set out to analyze these Ninja Turtles posters and what they mean for the future of comic book movie marketing.

After inserting copies of the posters into UnleashTheFanboy’s Fanboy-Analyti-Tron (patent pending), UTF’s data analysis team came up with a number: 4.3

What the number means is beyond this intrepid reporter but I am not a Fanboy-Analyti-Tron expert. Instead, this reporter decided to show the posters to random strangers walking past the UnleashTheFanboy offices on the street.

Approaching the first person on the street, UTF Reporting Team handed them a poster and asked for their immediate reactions. “What the f*ck is this? A hand?” said Mark Ungalman, 53. UTF tried to explain to him that these hands belong to the world famous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but he responded by saying “And they have 3 fingers?” before throwing the posters and walking away mouthing “F*cking hipsters”underneath his breath.

“I think its an expression of the verbose and humanity’s obsession with violence and creation myths,” said Mary Shellsky, 25, who is apparently an Art History major.

But the question at the heart of this issue is: What does this mean for future comic book film advertising? Will we see more hand posters? Will full portrait character posters become obsolete? UnleashTheFanboy decided to speak to an expert – Michael Moore, Professor of Comic Book Film Advertising at the prestigious University of Michigan.

“What we are seeing here is a new style of posters – one that attempts to keep characters ambiguous and more mysterious – which fits with the overall tone of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie’s expected explosions. Judging from these new posters it looks like Michael Bay and co. don’t give a crap about their main characters which might mean that this will start a trend to center comic book movies on body parts, instead. My prediction is that the next set of posters will be the Ninja Turtles’ feet.”

Catch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in August 2014 and don’t forget to keep it UTF for more teaser poster analysis.
