A group of University of Bahrain students have vowed to beat the record set by American talk show host, Ellen DeGeneres, for the most retweeted tweet of all time.
During last month’s Oscar Award Ceremony, Ellen DeGeneres and a group of other famous celebrities tweeted a selfie that made the entire social media site break down under the stress of the volume of retweets it received.
Salman Shahab, 19, a Computer Science major said “What is special about this selfie is that it is actually a selfie of a selfie, it is selfie-ception you could say.”
Other students were quick to agree with Salman saying that “this kind of selfie has never been attempted before for fear that the line between reality and selfie could be blurred.”
Seif Hassan, another student that participated in the selfie-ception said “As University of Bahrain students we are always trying to push the boundaries of what is possible. This selfie-ception is just one of the many things that we do here at UOB. Next month, we will take a selfie with all of the students at UOB,”
Upon realizing the Bahraini students’ plans, Twitter Chief Technology Officer, Adam Messinger, said “The last time Ellen posted her selfie, it was a technical disaster for the website, but now these students are trying to break the entire website! A selfie-ception is something that no one on our team knows how to deal with.”
