While X-Men: First Class was set in the early 1960’s and X-Men: Days of Future Past will be set in the 1970’s, it’s only logical for the next film, X-Men: Apocalypse to be set in the 1980’s.
But it’ll be a contemporary movie – well, it’ll take place in the ‘80’s… The ‘80’s is a period now – it’s hard for me to believe that!” Singer joked, probably contemplating how old he felt at that moment.
We know a few things about the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse film. Firstly, that it will be “more of aFirst Class sequel” rather than a direct follow-up to Days of Future Past. Singer called Days of Future Past an “inbetweequel” when he spoke to SciFiNow earlier this week.
We also know some casting details. X-Men: Apocalypse will reportedly star fan-favorite characters Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm but will feature new actors in the roles.
The last time Cyclops and Jean Grey appeared on screen was in X-Men: The Last Stand and The Wolverine, respectively, being played by James Marsden and Famke Janssen. While Halle Berry’s Storm will return to the big screen in X-Men: Days of Future Past later this month.
Bryan Singer also revealed that we might see Gambit and Nightcrawler appear in the future film.
“I’m considering a Gambit and potentially a young Nightcrawler for Apocalypse. [I was] going to have Nightcrawler appear [in Days of Future Past], and even wrote a scene, but I felt that we were forcing too many mutants known history.”
Additionally, Bryan Singer has stated that he plans to slowly bring the X-Men movies into the timeline of the first X-Men film released in 2000 and eventually tell the story of “how did the X-Men come together”.
X-Men: Apocalypse is slated for a May 2016 release while X-Men: Days of Future Past will be released May 22 and May 23, 2014 and you can check out the latest trailer below:
